Virginia’s finca

About us

«We are Virginia and Laura, two sisters in charge of a tropical fruit organic farming project: the Pitahaya.

We decided to go for the Pitahaya because it is a cactus, so it needs very little water and is highly resistant. We were fascinated when we discovered the magic of its gigantic flowers, which bloom in waves with the full moon and open only one night. The fruit, fleshy, refreshing and with thousands of properties, won us over. And so our project was born, with a lot of enthusiasm and a desire for respectful agriculture.

But our project is not only about agriculture, it is about agriculture with values, as we have always been taught at home. That is why it is fundamental in our project to be able to manage our farm in an ecological, respectful and environmentally responsible way.

Virginia, who is always out in the fields, is a forestry engineer and agricultural technician. After her experience managing tropical farms throughout the Axarquia region of Malaga, it was clear to her that there was a need for a different type of agriculture to the traditional one.

Laura is synonymous with management, innovation and creativity. She has a degree in Law and a degree in Translation and Interpreting. She is in charge of the administrative area and brings a different approach due to her extensive experience in the Social Area, so that this project is much more than just agriculture.

We also have the support of family and friends, who make the project possible.»

About my farm

«After deciding on the pitahaya, the process of looking for a farm began, trying to find the most suitable space possible. We found it in the Guadalhorce Valley (Almogía, MÁLAGA). A farm at the foot of the Torcal de Antequera, with incredible views and very good conditions to make it self-sufficient, as we wanted from the beginning.

We have achieved the self-sufficiency of the farm by taking care of the resources we have, making a responsible use of water, collecting rainwater for self-sufficiency and also using solar energy thanks to our solar panels.

Furthermore, as it is important to us that our cultivation is as self-sufficient and has as little environmental impact as possible, we have turned our farm into a place that avoids the use of chemicals and prioritises the use of natural substances, using mechanical and preventative methods that are always respectful of the environment. That is why, among other things, we make our own fertilisers and repellents for our plants with the vegetation of our farm, or we use the dried flowers of the pitahaya for the packaging of our fruit.

One of our values is to bring organic agriculture and our product to the consumer’s table at a fair price and in a direct way. That is why we were delighted to meet Cipriano and the Olefruits project.»
